Smart Luggage

Smart bags are typically a hard-shell case that has built-in electronic capabilities for one or more purposes. Examples are USB charging ports, a built-in scale, Wi-Fi, TSA-approved locks, as well as the ability to transmit its location via GPS and cellular.  These bags are powered by lithium ion (Li-ion) batteries.

In the interest of safety for all our passengers and employees Frontier does not allow smart bags onto our aircrafts under the following conditions, regardless of whether the bag is checked or carried onboard:

  • The battery is unable to be removed from the bag.
  • The battery exceeds 100-watt hours (Wh).
  • The battery shows signs of any defect or damage.

Please provide the type and size of battery at check-in to ensure safe handling and transportation of the battery.  When bringing the battery onboard the following rules apply:

  • The battery must be removed prior to boarding the aircraft.
  • The battery must be placed securely inside a carry-on bag once it is removed and remain inside the bag for the duration of the flight.
  • The battery must have the battery terminals protected from short circuits by placing it in the original retail packaging or insulating the terminal by taping over exposed terminals or the battery in a separate plastic bag or protective pouch before it is placed inside a carry-on bag.
