Honoring Our Amazing Frontier Dads

Posted on Jun 11, 2024|By Stacey Van Cleve

At Frontier Airlines, we recognize the hard work, dedication, and love our employees bring to their roles as fathers. We are excited to highlight some of our incredible dads and their unique stories this Father's Day. From cherished memories to life-changing perspectives, their experiences showcase the profound impact of fatherhood.

Grant Gahm - Manager of Regulatory Compliance

Meet Grant Gahm:

Grant joined Frontier on August 20, 2001, after transitioning from the construction industry to become a full-time dad. His journey at Frontier began on the ramp, and he moved through customer service, eventually leading to his current role in the security department.

Grant's Fatherhood Journey:

"The most rewarding aspect of being a father is being a student again. I learn so much from my daughter, Chloe, every day. Her passion for Shakespeare has inspired me to relearn and enjoy many things. Fatherhood has taught me humility, compassion, and a broader worldview. It has made me appreciate the efforts of all parents."

Memorable Moments:

"Two unforgettable experiences stand out. Ten years ago, Chloe and I had the opportunity to be 'Rockies for a day' at Coors Field, thanks to Frontier. The second was a work trip to Portland, Maine, where Chloe and I explored historical sites, enjoyed the local seafood, and watched a breathtaking sunrise. We are planning a trip to Scotland, where Chloe studies at the University of Strathclyde."

Matthew Karkheck - Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic

Meet Matthew Karkheck:

A former aircraft mechanic on F/A 18 Super Hornets in the Navy, Matthew joined Frontier nine months ago, attracted by the vibrant work culture and the opportunity to live in Colorado.

Matthew's Fatherhood Journey:

"Watching my son learn and grow every day is incredibly rewarding. Fatherhood has taught me patience and to cherish even the smallest moments."

Memorable Moments:

"Climbing the Great Sand Dunes at Great Sand Dunes National Park with my son and fiancée " is one of our most memorable adventures. It's incredible to see how resilient and adventurous he is already!"

Jenny Baca and David Potts - Flight Attendants

David's Story:

"Travel has always been a significant part of our lives, starting when Jenny's mom worked for Continental Airlines. We often flew standby as a family, dressed in our Sunday best. Despite the challenges, these trips were filled with adventure and unforgettable memories. Jenny always got sick after take-off, which became a family joke.

After retiring from a 40-year career in accounting, I pursued my lifelong dream of becoming a flight attendant. Jenny had been a flight attendant with Frontier from 2005 to 2007, and I pinned her wings when she started. When it was my turn, I went through training and interviews without mentioning our connection. Frontier allowed Jenny to pin my wings at my graduation, a full-circle moment I will always treasure.

A funny moment happened when we were both based in Orlando. I was in my car, frustrated with the slow driver ahead, only to realize it was Jenny! We burst into laughter and hugged. Though we have yet to work a trip together, I look forward to it. Seeing Jenny in action and hearing her called a leader fills me with pride. I'm honored to be known as Jenny Baca's dad. "

Jenny's Story:

"Travel has been a part of my life from a young age, thanks to my mom's job with Continental Airlines. Our family trips were full of excitement, whether blasting 'The Sound of Music' in a traffic jam or visiting historical sites. Travel meant family, fun, and adventure.

My dad always wanted to be a flight attendant, and I felt a bit guilty living that dream before him. When I became a flight attendant in 2005, it felt natural for my dad to pin my wings. Fast forward 12 years, and it was my turn to pin his wings, a moment filled with laughter, tears, and pride.

A memorable family tradition was the special trip each of us took with Dad when we turned 12. We sat in first class and chose our destination. These trips were about bonding and creating lasting memories.

In 2005, I tried flight attending and immediately loved it. My dad's support was invaluable, and I was thrilled to pin his wings when he achieved his dream. Now, as 'Grandpa Dave,' he is cherished by colleagues and passengers alike. Hearing people praise him and witnessing his journey from aspiring flight attendant to a beloved Frontier employee fills me with pride. I hope we can fly a trip together soon and add another chapter to our shared love of travel and family."

Jonathan Debrey - First Officer

Meet Johnathon Debrey:

Johnathon joined Frontier Airlines in January 2024, drawn by the fantastic people and the quality of life benefits offered by the company.

Johnathon's Fatherhood Journey:

"The most rewarding aspect of being a father has been witnessing my son's rapid development. Fatherhood has shifted my perspective, making me focus on how my achievements can benefit my family."

Memorable Moments:

"One of the funniest moments was being on diaper duty and experiencing a massive blowout. All I could do was laugh and embrace my new reality as a dad."

At Frontier Airlines, we are proud to celebrate the fathers in our family. Their dedication to their children and their work is truly inspiring. Happy Father's Day to all the incredible dads out there!
