LAS-based Captain Amber Skaran

How long have you had your pilots license? I have had my pilots license since 1991.

How long have you worked at Frontier? I have worked at Frontier for over 19 years.

Where are you based? I am currently based in LAS.

What is your favorite thing about being a pilot? I get to fly airplanes!  The view from my office is amazing.  It’s always changing.  It’s always challenging and the job is never the same.  Maybe the best part of my job is the interaction I get to have with all of my team members at Frontier.  My passion in this profession is to mentor and to help people achieve their professional goals.  I love talking about pilot stuff with other pilots and find the exchange of ideas and experiences uplifting.

Why did you become a pilot? If you love what you do, you will never work a day in your life!  It’s a very true adage but really, all the men in my family growing up, my dad, step-dad, uncles, and brother were pilots and they included me in what they did by taking me to work or teaching me to fly.  They were my early mentors and seemed to love what they did even given the adversity of being a professional pilot in the mid 80’s.  I knew from the time I was nine that I wanted to be a professional pilot.  I recall very vividly flying the Micronesia island hopper with my dad as the captain of a 727 and hoped I would be doing that someday.

What advice do you have for future pilots? A great advantage in the life is knowing what you want to do from a very young age. So, if you know you want be a pilot, get started early. However, if you have always dreamed of flying, its never too late to start. Dream big, go for it and don’t look back!

Den-based Captain Kelli Cammack

How long have you had your pilot’s license? Since 1991.

How long have you worked for Frontier? 21 years and 9 months.

Which base do you fly out of? Denver

What is your favorite thing about being a pilot? Flying constantly challenges you and is stimulating and exciting. We see the world from above and are often connected first-hand with the forces of mother nature. It takes a lot of effort and team-work to fly an aircraft from point A to point B and being ultimately responsible for the safety of the aircraft, flight crew and passengers is something I am really passionate about. 

Why did you want to be a pilot? My first memory was back in the seventh grade, and it was career day at the school. I was the only girl in the classroom and there was a 747 Captain from Pan Am talking about being a pilot. I sat in the first row and the Captain handed me a First Class menu. He said I was in the wrong room; this is for pilots not flight attendants. I was on a secret mission from that day forward to be an airline pilot.

What advice do you have for future pilots? If you are thinking about becoming a pilot, run to a flight school, don’t walk!  Take your dream of becoming a pilot and make it into a career.  The opportunities for future commercial pilots have never been better.

TPA-based First Officer Bill Murray 

How long have you had your pilot’s license? I have had my pilot license for 21 years. I flew a UH-60 BlackHawk for 17 years. I had my fixed-wing license for 5 years.

How long have you worked for Frontier? I have worked for Frontier for 14 months. My hire date was 31 January 2022.

What base do you fly out of? I fly out of Tampa (TPA).

What is your favorite thing about being a pilot? Every flight and every day is different. You have to be prepared and ready for the unexpected. This job is not boring and it’s an honor to be a part of a legacy that has continued since 1903. The view from the cockpit is the icing on the cake.

Why did you want to become a pilot? When I was a young kid, my parents took me to an air show. I was hooked from that point on. Growing up I had counselors in High School and Leaders in the military tell me that I would never be a pilot. That made me try even harder to accomplish my dreams. Now I have my dream job and I look forward to going to work.

What advice do you have for future pilots? Don’t give up on your dreams. You will be told that you can’t do it and some days it will be extremely hard. When you get knocked down get up and become stronger for it. Once you make it, try to get to a live in base. You will find that your quality of life will be amazing.
