Rocket the Hammerhead Shark

Hammerhead sharks are unlike other sharks, or any creature for that matter - with flat, hammer-shaped heads called a cephalofoil. Sharks have sensory organs that can detect electric fields of prey; interestingly, hammerheads have more of these organs due to their broad craniums, making them superior hunters. The positioning of their eyes, with nearly 360-degree views, allow them to more easily home in on their favorite afternoon snack - stingrays. Our friend Rocket is a Scalloped Hammerhead and can be identified by the notch at the center of his head. Unfortunately, 3 out of 10 of the species, including the Scalloped Hammerhead, are at high risk of extinction due to the shark fin trade and bycatch (unwanted fish entangled in commercial fishing nets).
